> And as I said during the meeting, and as I have said before, we are ready to make an agreement with the European Union not to use the veto or even our vote—we are not interested in that. We are fanatical supporters of European values and have no intention, no desire, to use the veto. This means we are ready to sign an agreement to be represented by the Italian European Commissioner.
Oh Italy will have two voices?
I like the Albanian government! We need people that appreciate what the European Union means for all of us, we have Hungary and Slovakia doing the opposite and people that do appreciate our values have to basically beg to allow them to be with us, I say it’s unfair. If Albania wants to enter the EU even without a veto or voting rights, for the moment, I believe that they should be allowed to.
I mean the Sicilian mafia can take the Albanian mafia under their wing. Totally makes sense.
Then why not apply to be in the EEA..
What about no one else joins? If anything we should decrease members, not increase them.
There are 0 reasons for expanding further and admitting new states, and there is no appetite within the EU to do that.
Does this guy have a fetish for the Italian protectorate of Albania.
Every time I hear from him it’s something to do with submissiveness to Italy.
I have a lot of respect for Albania, and while there’s still a lot to change, they’re working hard. Tirana is great as a tourist as well, can recommend! But I also don’t know if having Albania in the EU would be a net benefit to this project.
But this ain’t it. We can’t add a second-class EU membership to the system. That will end really messy. However, the EU was founded with quite naive ideas, which is blowing up in our faces. Yes, I’m talking about Hungary. The fix has to be to be more democratic, and veto-rights of all members need to be taken away. And probably other things as well, but I don’t have a PhD in political sciences 😉
It’s not about voting rights they’re after. It’s about freedom of movement, and more money. With freedom of movement they could expand their business (well known to most of us) even more easily, and migrate everywhere in eu.That country is a modern day puppet state of italy, like it used to be croatia in the past (of germany in italy in WWII).Culture of that people (and RKS), we’ve seen yesterday on a match between slovenia and kosovo. It is not something (normal) people would want to have in ther environment. I am hoping that eu will fall apart, so that we can take control of our borders back.
I think it needs to be done differently. Albania will get voting rights and represent Hungary and Slovakia.
We shouldn’t add more members in the union without fixing it first.
we need to abolish the liberum veto. And also every member should be represented in the EU. It’s important so we don’t become a bunch of rent seeking nations with a periphery like some kind of empire. The EU should be anti imperial, aimed at taking in the periphery as best it can. the existence of peripheral states is a serious liability to the union as a whole.
If AI minister becomes pregnant again, will the Italian European Commissioner have to pay for child support?
Absolutely not. While I appreciate the enthusiasm everyone has to have equal rights. We don’t want a EU with two tiers of membership.
I would prefer the EU to be disbanded but I like the idea of an Albanian protectorate 2.0
How about this asshole stops being the most corrupt leader Albania has ever seen and let the country prosper and be invited into EU? This guy is a curse to our country.
Yeah. Not gonna happen.
Vetoless membership could definitely make sense for smaller, poor countries. Easier to stomach for the rich countries that isn’t subjected to backwards politics, and could still be added later when the country is more developed and have caught up socially and organizationally. Giving them a few spots in the parliament wouldn’t matter either way, they are too tiny (though could of course matter if the same process was used for a bigger country. Think Turkey or Russia for some not very probable cases).
That said, it would also put more pressure to reform the council into something that is more democratic. Which may be good.
