German company ATMOS Space Cargo and French start-up HyPrSpace have signed an agreement to collaborate on the Baguette One experimental rocket, a hybrid technology demonstrator made in France.

The agreement, signed on November 7, 2025, stipulates that ATMOS will participate in the test mission of the Baguette One suborbital rocket, developed by HyPrSpace. This flight will serve to validate several key technologies before moving on to orbital missions.

HyPrSpace, founded in 2019 and based in Bordeaux-Mérignac, is developing a hybrid rocket engine that combines safety and performance. Its Baguette One suborbital rocket is scheduled to launch in 2026 from the DGA Essais de missiles missile testing site in Biscarrosse, in the Landes region.

It will serve as a test bed for the future OB-1 orbital rocket (Orbital Baguette One, pronounced “Obi-Wan”), capable of placing up to 235 kg into low orbit by 2027.

For its part, ATMOS will test its PHOENIX-2 module on this flight, an inflatable reentry capsule designed to recover equipment from orbit. This prototype is the successor to PHOENIX-1, which was partially successfully tested via SpaceX in April 2025.

The project has received European support: ATMOS has obtained €13.1 million from the EIC Accelerator program to finalize the development of its capsule, which is now equipped with an autonomous propulsion system that controls its reentry and landing zone.

Beyond the Baguette One flight, the memorandum of understanding provides for future cooperation on the OB1 orbital mission in order to build a genuine European space logistics and recovery capability.

I guess Baguette One sounds better than Bratwurst One…
