If they knew they wouldn’t get any more child benefit why did they have another if its apparently going to make things even harder?

It’s outside of London and the surrounding boroughs and full of poor people so of course the government won’t give a shit.

It’s a tough one. I can’t afford to have kids. Neither can most of my friends and I doubt we ever will at this point. The anger from people who feel they’re paying for other people’s choices is understandable. It shouldn’t be like it used to be, where having kids you can’t support is the way to a council house and a pretty comfortable life.

At the same time, and we all know this, it’s not the kids’ fault and it ultimately hurts us all when they grow up in poverty. We need to be replacing the money that was taken from the young to fund Boomers’ decades-long retirements and various benefits.

These days, most parents affected by the two-child benefit cap knew they’d be affected by the benefit cap. Kids born to parents like that need all the outside influences they can get, and that means bringing back sports to austerity-hit schools that have had to sell off their facilities, bringing back Sure Start, bringing back youth groups, etc.

Also, people who grow up in poverty tend to make bad decisions because of a lack of guidance and opportunity. It’s an embarrassment that places like Middlesborough still haven’t been levelled up after years of promises.

Rachel Reeves is right that we can’t keep supporting hordes of people to do nothing. But the other part of the problem is that so, so much of our tax money goes straight into the pockets of landlords. I think the solution is to crack down on greedy landlords and put the pedal to the metal as far as house-building so that housing costs come down. That would eliminate the need to increase welfare.

My main complaint about the government is too much focus on treating symptoms and not enough on cures.

The gov should focus all it’s energy and resources on getting housing, food and energy prices down and economic growth up, if you do that then it’s much easier for everyone.

What a struggling family of 5 needs is a well paid job and low bills.

And yet what tends to happen is we panic over homelessness and so have to spend massive amounts on rent getting people into private accomodation quickly. When that money could be building the houses to take the pressure off everyone.

It will be forever crisis from here on out so long as the foundations are fucked.

Starmer just isn’t getting the scale of the changes that are needed.

      It’s about incentives.

If we gave every family who is entirely dependent on the state 5k to have an abortion we wouldn’t have this problem.

At what stage does common sense and personal responsibility come into play? If you are already in a situation where you cannot afford to look after the children you already have, it is very foolish to have more and make the situation even more difficult.

Lovely bit of journalism from my hometown again.

The last time we made the news last year was for Race Riots…

Much of this article focuses on the 2 Child benefit cap, the family interviewed had two and decided to have a third despite not being able to afford it, now they are relying on the cap being removed, just so they can afford to live.

Nice to see they really made an effort to not look a bit scruffy for their national News interview… I swear any media that find themselves up this way must look for the toothless, morbidly overweight and permanently unemployed, mid-day pyjama wearing, day-time TV watching, chain-smoking shitmunchers to interview.

I don’t exaggerate much at all when I say I have known people whose entire lifely ambition is to be a generational benefit bum.

How about subsidise childcare for working parents and expand voucher and discount schemes, instead of paying people directly for having more kids…

    8. Why is contraception such a difficult subject to master to some people?

Thatchers de-industrialisation and globalisation by greedy corporations means the jobs that remain for ordinary people are poorly paid. At the same time, living costs have spiralled. Can’t believe anyone’s surprised we have a big issue. Don’t see a solution to it personally… poverty is now normal, just as it was in the late 1800’s.

Of course they’re all calling for the 2 child benefits cap to be scrapped, why do the rest us have to pay for this shit?

God this thread 🙄. Once again the rich have done a great job of convincing people who don’t have enough, to blame people with less.

My my that’s an expensive smart watch sir…. We need to push for parents to take responsibility and pre plan how you will afford having a family. Of course we cannot allow children to suffer because of their parents actions.

Two child benefit should stay. Triple lock should end. We shouldn’t pay millions towards hotels or private landlords to house the homeless or immigrants. That money should be spent on training people, building affordable housing and infrastructure. The foundations need to be fixed not just giving out money

I’d love to get more tattoos but I can’t afford them. My man has spent his kids lunch money on tattoos.
