    Isn’t Winter like the worst possible time to invade anyway? And this is the season they decided to attack Finland, a super wintery country in? Were they expecting a three day special military operation?

    I read it was a war of attrition, the Soviet Russia did not care how many were lost.
    The ratio I believe was 17 to 1. The Finns grew up with firearms and knew the land they were defending.

    It’s important to note that after the initial failures, the Soviet Union reorganized and eventually forced the Fins to surrender Karelia. Finland wouldn’t have a chance to attempt to reclaim it until the Continuation War.
