      In Spain it’s already a majority. And it probably could be more with actual  campaigning.

      It’s impressive how this sub spins the title to always look positive when it comes to federalization. Not supporting federalization doesn’t mean they want to destroy the EU.

      It doesn’t seem possible to me at all, especially when we analyze the governments of Poland and Hungary, which do not align at all with what Western Europe follows: LGBT issues, immigration, and so on.

      How would this work, would they be autonomous regions like those in Spain?

      And independence movements, like Kosovo, would it be a state within the federation?

      It really depends on what federalizing means, doesn’t it? If it’s actually democratic, with stronger, more competent institutions than our countries and definitely not governed like the current EU, I think a lot of people would be in favor of it.
      I believe the main hold up is how the EU is currently governed, how much lobbyism there is, how opaque and undemocratic the processes are. We absolutely cannot have a federal government like that.

      I mean, I’m pro EU. But I don’t want a federal Europe. Why is this being pushed so hard on this sub, to the point of spinning the story as OP did with this graph?

      When you live in an echo chamber you play with your own mind to make sense of the information that doesn’t confirm your bias. This one definitely says more than half of Italians do not want into it.

      EU is already a federation in that sense. Just putting a fancy name and rebranding it as “federation” won’t do anything more.

      Posts like this increase the anti eu movement.

      I m not 100% against EU, although it needs major reforms but i m 100% against an EU army and an eu federation.

      Politicians like Salvini have been blaming UE for every economical problem for a long time now. The unfortunate consequence is that a lot of people is convinced that less EU—> better Italy

      Ask the question again but with the detail that each region would become a state of this federal Europe instead of Italy as a whole

      If you told Italians that this would take away power from the state and give more power to regional governments the percentage would climb to 80% or something

      Federalization is giving away national autonomy to the EU.

      Asking people if we need a European army that is a credible deterrent without US support is perhaps the more relevant question.

      If we do do we also need a foreign policy that doesn’t rely on debate with dozens of political heads of state?

      Another question is if we need a European industrial policy to be competitive with China and the US.

      If we do do we need common debt en means to stop national redundancy?

      If we do do we need a common market of services and not just of goods?

      The result would be a more federal Europe. And a more powerful parliament.

      It’s all-but a formal *confederation* at the moment, I would rather it settled that first with a formal constitution, an joint military coordination (within NATO) and greatly reduced veto powers (make the supermajority requirement tougher instead perhaps).

      A full federation with Brussels taking over key national authorities (esp armed forces) will be a touch nut to crack.
