How about we define ourselves as a nation that stays well the fuck clear of it all?

Oh and stop selling arms to Israel whilst we’re at it because quite frankly that IS getting involved.

    2. SuperTurtle222 on

As a millennial, how many more of ‘define country for a generation’ will I need to go through?

    3. Traditional_Low_6641 on

If we could have less generational events per year, that’d be great

    4. filbert94 on

Cool. I’ll add it to the list of generational things I’ve experienced.

Got any others, just while I’m doing it?

    5. Ok-Store-9297 on

If the rules-based order is fading, the real issue is that we’ve built an economy around finance, not production.

That’s a national security vulnerability in a multipolar world.

This is a bit of a first-world problem and perhaps a bit selfish but I am curious, has anyone tried booking flights recently? Has this crisis made air travel prices skyrocket? I had a quick check and the prices I saw actually still seem fairly reasonable, which surprised me.

The “Once In A Generation” events I have lived through:

      Fall of the Berlin Wall

      Black Wednesday

      The Good Friday Agreement

      9/11

      2008 Financial Crisis

      Scottish Independence Referendum

      Brexit

      COVID

      Now the Iran War

Can we leave some things to the next generation, please? I think we are being a bit greedy here.

Why is the UK so acutely unresilient to global events? I swear all it takes is a crisis across the globe and we’re straight back into austerity and managed decline.

    9. nsfwthrowaway5969 on

This is about the 5th ‘generational’ thing I’ve lived through and I’m not even 30 yet.

    10. Caffine_rush on

I’m 41 I would just like a year where nothing happens please just once

    11. ExoneratedPhoenix on

My generation has been defined by a once in a lifetime financial crash (happened 3 times now), a once in a lifetime pandemic (which lead to another financial crash) and now another war.

Obviously it isn’t any British party’s/politicians fault for this current shit-show, but it sure does suck to be the generation constantly shafted. I know every generation has it’s issues of their time, but ours seem to be the worst since WW2.

    12. afrophysicist on

Why can’t we just get Mi6 or someone to slip something into his daily Big Mac and give us all some peace and quite for a change.

    13. Interesting_Road_380 on

Then it’s very important its legacy here is, “we took no part in a purposeless, unsuccessful and illegal war, but helped to find a good resolution”

    14. lightreee on

The post-WW2 peace is actually an aberration. The whole of human history has been like what’s happening now

    15. SnooMacarons4225 on

Cool, sounds like he’s limbering us all up for further tax rises, please just manage the countries finances better and stop the waste and giveaways, will be voting you at the first opportunity.

    16. BoofmasterZero on

Didn’t Klaus Schwab say this would happen all around 2026/27?

    17. trmetroidmaniac on

Two faced bastard. If it’s not our war, stop arming the aggressors and letting them use our air bases.

    18. Didst_thou_Farteth on

We’ve been out in cold now for to long, we’ve seen how the world is.
Maybe now people will accept we were better off with the EU and agree that rejoining is the best move.

    19. Particular-Dig-83 on

Unprecedented times, with this mollusc in charge. What could possibly go wrong..?

    20. Can we now start taxing Americans more at the airport for what they have cost this country and everyone in it?

“NATO is a paper tiger – and Putin knows that too by the way” – Donald Trump.
Oh – then Putin and the Kremlin won’t mind us inching a little bit more eastward then 😉

    22. No-Region-3745 on

Nothing to see here, just the Telegraph acting as the mouthpiece of a war criminal, dictator.

    23. Public-Guidance-9560 on

Right well lets add that to: The GFC, Covid, Ukraine…

    24. EasySwordfish862 on

Given China can build thousands of miles of motorways in the same time it takes us to just convert existing hard shoulders into an extra motorway lane it’s not surprising- everything public sector oriented takes forever – none of the MP/councils are used to working at the pace required

    25. Cynical_Classicist on

Mayhaps. It may see a pivot away from the US and from oil.

    26. SMTRodent on

I’ll add that to the pile of other country-defining things that have been going on this decade.

    27. JamesP84 on

Isn’t it time we became energy independent from the world? Shouldn’t we place the country on a war footing approach to get that done? Surely this is the ONLY way to insulate ourselves and not rely on the middle east, Russia, Norway or US for us to keep the lights on, heat our homes and run our industry?

    28. Mammoth-Rhubarb2704 on

Oh great, you realise that this just means they are going to give more stuff to the super rich?

    29. voluntarydischarge69 on

Defined by the failure to section the orange nonce on his last state visit.

    30. TheGulfofWhat on

The majority of our sanctions on Iran are due to their nuclear program. The US says its destroyed. The UK and EU should ease sanctions to allow the strait to be open to our boats. The alternative is getting punished for a war Israel and the US started.

    31. mickey_kneecaps on

Why in gods name would you say this? Unless you are girding the populace for UK entry into the war in earnest?

    32. muchos_lemons on

This could be a positive. Rising to the challenge and evolving as a nation would define us. The status quo is dead and it’s time for reinventing ourselves. I think the strides in renewables is a fantastic start, the next should be to renew our ties with Europe.

    33. PurpleAkisGhost on

Food, fuel, medicine all going to run out eventually.

Hormuz being closed and the price of crude rocketing is going to absolutely fuck Europe.
