It’s always child trafficking , drugs and terrorism given as a pretence to take away human rights and civil liberties.

First it should be mandatory to wear and use 24/7 bodycams for every public “servant”. No footage = jail.

    5. Okay, so with these types of laws I would then assume a lot of criminal gangs being caught. If that doesn’t happen, then the law doesn’t work and shall be removed. Fair?

Funny enough that same reasons (plus fighting piracy) were declared by Russian authorities back when first internet censorship laws were introduced. I hope guys you will like to live im authoritarian state.

Utter crap, silly joke, impossible to enforce.

People will just flee the backdoor-ed platforms.

This thing would be obsolete one hour later if passed.

      LOL

The EU is half genius and half regarded.

They’re able to submit some really good customer protections laws, but on the other hand they keep coming back with their brain dead surveillance law.

Make up your mind god damn it, are you evil or not!?
      We need guidance here.

Ah, that is a throwback to when Belgium decided to introduce anpr cameras. “It’s will be only used to fight crime “. 2025: anpr cameras are being used to check insurance, validity of technical inspection and phone usage of every passing car. Besides the fact that the route of any car on any even day can be plotted. Because fuck privacy

Mass surveillance is freedom, only child molesters disagree!

drugs are sold in the open to physical customers, just catch them in the open. Drugs are physical objects, just find and trace them in the supply chain !

Crimes that involve harm to people usually have witnesses , or hard evidence, or bodies, or any other forensic data !

They want to have digital evidence for the crimes that are based on hard physical evidence ????

Usual political lies and agendas !

They can start with arresting thieves for starters. The police don’t do anything these days, I don’t even know why I’m paying these taxes

As a Belgian, it honestly doesn’t surprise me. I often feel lucky that we speak Flemish because most foreigners don’t understand the ridiculous things that sometimes happen in our governments. Flanders is like stupid Hungary but at the north sea.

But each side (French and Flemish) has its own wild stories. I think we might be the only liberals whose party leader (of the French MR) went to the local elections campaigning for camera controls to monitor behavior on the streets – and even wanted to turn parts of his city into no-go zones specifically for people from France. The gambling industry is barely touched because a French-speaking chairman owns a football club, and cracking down would jeopardize his sponsorship money. Pure self-interest in the open and nobody (you can compare the press with Fox news but we have multiple of them)

And our current defense minister was once caught dead drunk, peeing in flowerbeds in Brussels – and we all know he’s no stranger to cheating on his partner. Every now and then, clips surface of him getting a bit too close with women. We must be Russia’s favorites because they don’t even need to produce kompromat – we’ve got politicians doing that for them.

And now they’re pushing hard to add backdoors in communication systems, while at the same time refusing to create an asset register in the fight against tax fraud – to protect their wealthy friends. Those double standards are honestly kind of hilarious. For example, people renting social housing face way more checks than the super-rich.

When it comes to corruption, Europe has been demanding a gift register for politicians and political parties for years… but progress has been slow because of so-called privacy concerns.

Honestly, John Oliver could easily do an entire series just about Belgium – there’s so much material with all the political quirks, scandals, and crazy contradictions.

    16. Our current government, the party NVA especially, is very “war on drugs minded”. They’ve also placed our country full of traffic cameras and are trying to start a central database with all citizens’ fingerprints.

I absolutely hate that they’re doing this stuff, but they were very clear about their intentions and people still voted for them.
